Our Founding Fathers had a brilliant vision for our nation, and it’s imperative that our lawmakers uphold the U.S. Constitution which serves as the backbone of our government.
As your Congressman, John will always adhere to the Constitution and work tirelessly to preserve the rights and values it grants to the American people. John supports President Trump’s efforts to Make America Great Again by securing our border, lowering taxes, and preserving the conservative values that define who we are.
John believes that judges are appointed to the federal bench, and the Supreme Court, to apply the laws, and Constitution of the United States, as they are written. It is not the role, or the responsibility, of federal judges or justices to bend, interpret, or rewrite laws to fit their personal ideological views or their perceptions of public opinion. John supports the recruitment, nomination, and confirmation of strict constructionist judges who apply the laws of the land, not attempt to write or re-write them. He believes the late Justice Antonin Scalia was an excellent model for future judges nominated for the Supreme Court or the federal bench.
John believes every free and moral society should be encouraging a culture that supports the formation of strong families and life. John opposes providing tax payer monies to organizations like Planned Parenthood whose principal business is the termination of pregnancies. John also opposes elements of Obamacare and other laws that coerce individuals and businesses to pay for or support procedures, treatments, or health related conduct that violates their religious or personal beliefs.
The immigration issue is key to national security. John supports the enforcement of the immigration laws currently on the books. He supports the President’s proposal for a wall along the southern border of the United States understanding that the wall can be both a physical wall and one created by the use of drones, remote sensing technologies, and other overhead systems applied in geographically difficult areas. John is a strong proponent of immediately deporting any illegal immigrant who breaks the law, no exceptions.
Having worked in the technology and telecommunications sectors for many years, John understands the benefits of a well- run H1b visa program and would like to expand it. But Americans need to be first for consideration for any of the jobs potentially filled by an H1b visa holder, that was the original intent of the program and should be respected. He thinks a robust and fair legal immigration process aids economic growth, increasing wage rates, and general prosperity by enhancing worker productivity with a workforce that’s diverse, fresh, and competitive.
With more than 20 years of working with dozens of entrepreneurs in starting and building companies, John knows first-hand how hard it is to grow a business. Businesses, and particularly small ones, are the nation’s top job creators. The best thing our federal government can do to grow our economy is get out of the way.
John believes that a stable interest rate environment, low corporate tax rates, a steady roll-back of the malignant Obama era regulatory environment, and a robust banking system aiding access to capital are the important contributors to sustained economic growth. In the tradition of President Trump and Governor Rick Scott, John will work to persuade new businesses to move all, or part, of their operations to the 6th District, while continuing to encourage the resource and ecosystem formation required to support new business formations. This will add depth and diversity to the district’s GDP, broaden the tax base, and increase the universe of employment opportunities.
As a former US Naval Intelligence Officer, John is appalled at the treatment of classified information—and its methods of collection—by current and former government employees. A citizen’s right to privacy is a bedrock of our democracy and John supports aggressive investigations and prosecution of government officials found leaking or mishandling classified information of any kind.
In addition, John understands the need for domestic electronic surveillance of suspected foreign operatives in the United States. He supports rigorous standards for authorizing such warrants and will pursue better oversight for the treatment of information about US Citizens unwittingly recorded in the process of electronic surveillance.
A strong public education system is an essential element to economic prosperity. John supports school choice and ardently opposes any top down, “one size fits all” strategy. He does not support Common Core.
Charter, magnet, and academy school programs as well as voucher systems all have John’s support. School choice mean, higher quality teaching, energized parents and, most importantly, better educated students who are in environments best tailored to their needs and interests.
Our nation’s veterans deserve a better support infrastructure for both their medical and commercial needs. John, a former Naval Officer himself, will work tirelessly to reform the VA medical care system to make it more responsive to our veterans who have served to preserve the freedoms we so enjoy. In addition, John will drive efforts to enhance the job training and commercial readiness of recent veterans in order to increase their probability of success as they transition to civilian life.
The right to bear arms is an American fundamental. John is a gun owner himself and is a strong supporter of both the 2nd Amendment and the NRA. He supports open carry in Florida and concealed carry reciprocity among states. John does not support the idea of a national firearm registry or a ban on semi-automatic firearms, their magazines or ammunition. He believes that guns don’t kill or injure, people do. To that end, he supports stiff penalties and tough sentencing for criminals using firearms in the commission of a crime. John believes weapons enhancements like “bump-stocks” should be regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms in accordance with their current set of regulations.
There’s too much of it. John supports a balanced budget and debt reduction plan at all levels of government. Our nation needs to live within its means and Congress must be prepared to make hard spending decisions. John supports growth enhancing legislation that lowers taxes, lifts unnecessarily burdensome regulations, and reduces the need for government spending. Financing the nation’s business with some debt is normal, but at $20.5 trillion of debt on the nation’s balance sheet, an amount at more than 100% of the country’s $18.7 trillion of GDP, is way that's too much.
The Obama years added more than $100 billion of regulatory friction to the economy, and John intends to aid President Trump in unwinding as much of that as possible. Whether it’s overtime rules from the Department of Labor, aggressive Fair Labor Standards Act provisions, Obamacare reporting, or value destroying EPA rules, John will fight to roll them back to common sense positions that aid economic growth and ensure employees, citizens, and our environment are treated fairly.
Thanks to the failure of Obamacare, deductibles and premiums paid are now so high that most families are faced with paying out-of-pocket for all their healthcare services excepting only catastrophic healthcare events such as a cancer diagnosis or serious injury from an auto accident.
John supports the dismantling of Obamacare and instituting a replacement program that delegates block grants to the states for Medicare, creates special insurance pools for citizens with pre-existing conditions, and allows individuals to shop for health insurance across state lines creating a competitive market for health insurance offerings to drive down premiums and deductibles.
Energy independence should be both an economic and national security goal for the United States. John believes that all forms of energy, oil, coal, solar, wind, geothermal, and water be explored and utilized based on the attractiveness of each form’s free-market characteristics. This means that government should not be picking winners and losers in the energy sector by providing subsidies for energy sources or businesses that are unable to sustain themselves as economically viable. John supports private sector investment in alternative energy sources and believes the rigorous process incumbent to that will result in terrific alternative energy options in the coming years and be yet another example of American ingenuity at its finest.
